Bridge fanatics will soon have another way to get a closer look at what’s up with the new St. Croix bridge under construction between Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Paddleboat tours of the project are scheduled to begin May 31, KSTP reports, and will run on Saturdays and Wednesdays through Sept. 27.

MnDOT staff will be on board to answer questions. St. Croix Crossing project director Jon Chiglo told KSTP they set up the boat tours because there are no places on shore for the public to safely view the construction.

WCCO reports adult tickets will be $10. It’ll be $6 for children ages 4 to 12.

The new river crossing is expected to open to traffic by fall 2016.

MnDOT: Construction on new St. Croix River bridge to begin next spring

MnDOT officials tell MPR that foundation work on the new bridge crossing the St. Croix River downstream from Stillwater will begin next spring, rather than in 2014. The proposed four-lane bridge connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin will replace the 80-year-old Stillwater Lift Bridge. The entire project is estimated to cost up to $676 million and take about three years to complete.
