A new perspective: Duluth's Glensheen Mansion now has kayak tours

Visitors to Duluth's historic Glensheen Mansion are now able to tour the property from the water.

Day Tripper of Duluth – an adventure tours company in the area – is leading 90-minute kayak tours that push off from the mansion grounds, where paddlers will get a tour full of history and nature around the property.

"Guests will be able to see the cribbing of the pier and they will even get to kayak into Tischer Creek under our great stone bridge, and see all of the cliffs along the North Shore and Lake Superior. It's a really neat experience," Jane Pederson, the marketing manager at Glensheen Mansion, told WDIO.

The $45 tour also includes the equipment, instructions (first-time kayakers are welcome) and safety protocols, the website notes.

Tours, which began this week, are held Wednesday nights, and Thursday and Sunday mornings. For more information and to sign up for a tour, click here.

Paddlers can also get a tour inside Glensheen Mansion for an additional price, starting at $15 for adults for the standard tour.

The 39-room home, built by the influential Congdon family and completed in 1908, has an infamous history that includes the grisly 1977 murders of heiress Elisabeth Congdon and her night nurse.

Last month, Glensheen Mansion opened the door to a room never before seen by the public. Robert’s room, located on the third floor, can be viewed as part of the museum’s expanded tour.
