The New York Times is giving Minnesota some more attention.

An article published Friday tells the story of a writer who decided to ride a 740-foot freighter from Montreal, through four Great Lakes, to Minnesota.

Porter Fox wrote that the Algoma Equinox – as the massive boat was called – picked him up in the Quebec city.

Over the course of six days, the Equinox glided through Lakes Ontario, Erie, Huron, and Superior.

Fox doesn't go into a lot of detail about his experience on Lake Superior, noting that "final leg of the journey through Lakes Huron and Superior was the fastest."

Fog settled over the cold lake and Fox couldn't see a whole lot. But the giant boat sailed on through over the "black and calm" waters before dropping the writer off at about six hours north of Duluth in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
