A toast to a soldier: Buffalo Wild Wings waiter helps customer honor fallen brother

Visitors to a Tacoma, Washington, Buffalo Wild Wings might see something unusual when they walk in for their next meal – an open bottle of Corona beer, complete with fresh lime, displayed next to the American flag.

That beer is the subject of a touching story about a diner who wanted to honor her brother, a fallen soldier, and the waiter who helped her do it.

Brian Avey, a server for the Golden Valley, Minnesota-based chain, was taken aback when the diner, whom he describes as a "military woman," wanted to order two beers – a Blue Moon and a Corona.

This presented a bit of a challenge for Avey, as only one beer can be ordered at a time under Washington state law, KiroTV says.

But, the woman explained, she wasn't going to be drinking the Corona – it was for her brother, who had been killed in the Iraq War.

You can read Avey's account of what happened next below:

"Thank you," the note on the woman's receipt reads. "An act of kindness goes a long way. It means a lot to me. Have a great rest of your day."

"Grateful Soldier," it is signed.

The story has since gone viral on social media, reaching nearly 40,000 shares, and according to KiroTV, the beer and the flag are now on display as a continuing tribute to the late soldier.
