The average gas price in the Twin Cities should remain around $3 per gallon to start off 2013.

In an interview with WCCO, Gail Weinholzer of AAA says the slow economic recovery is keeping consumer demand fairly stable at the same time oil producers in the Middle East are relatively stable.

Weinholzer predicts the next significant increase may come in late February when the switchover to summer-grade fuel begins.

The lowest gas price reported in the metro Wednesday by TwinCitiesGasPrices.com was $2.89.

Experts say 2012 was the most expensive year for gas. The national average of $3.60 per gallon beat the 2011 record average of $3.51.
