It actually happened – a guy with a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card got arrested

We're not sure how long he carried the card before he had a chance to use it.

A Dakota County sheriff's deputy stopped a man over the weekend because there was a warrant for his arrest.

But, lo and behold, the guy had a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

From a Monopoly game. One of the Chance cards (not Community Chest). It turns out, though, that in real life those cards don't actually get you out of jail.

Apparently they do make a deputy smile, though. And post a picture of the card to Facebook.

According to FOX 9, the Ramsey County man will have to post $5,000 bail to get out of jail after his arrest on a controlled substance charge.

While their cards don't get people out of real jails, Monopoly has helped make the phrase "get-out-of-jail-free card" into a standard part of the language, recognized by the Cambridge Dictionary.
