Adrian Peterson's return appears to be looming closer now that he's been spotted running sprints at Vikings practice.
"He's doing good," head coach Mike Zimmer finally answered after being pressed on Peterson's status. "He's probably ahead of schedule I guess ... I don't know."
The "I don't know" part is a bit disconcerting, but the fact that a tight-lipped coach like Zimmer said Peterson is ahead of schedule isn't a bad thing.
According to the Pioneer Press, this is the first week Peterson has been cleared to run since undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee following an injury against the Packers in Week 2.
Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Peterson had been running in a pool and that he would only be allowed to test his knee on a hard surface if the water drills went well.
No word from the Vikings about Peterson's potential return date, but ESPN reported recently that his timetable was set for mid- to- late-December. There's also no word if "ahead of schedule" means he could return before then or not.
