Al Franken's new book Giant of the Senate comes out next year

Al Franken's take on being a U.S. senator.

We've got a name, and some details, about that book Sen. Al Franken has been working on.

Al Franken, Giant of the Senatecomes out May 30 of 2017.

The book (which Franken reportedly got a $1 million deal to write) is non-fiction, and will go over the "unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect," the description from publisher Hachette Book Group says.

That's of course referring to 2008, when Franken – in his first-ever run for public office – defeated incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman by 312 votes (after a recount, where Coleman had been originally up by about 200 votes). Franken is now in his second term as a U.S. senator, after winning re-election in 2014.

"It's a book about our deeply polarized, frequently depressing, occasionally inspiring political culture, written from inside the belly of the beast," according to the publisher, who calls it a "candid personal memoir." It'll also offer a look "inside the halls of Congress, and behind the scenes of some of the most dramatic and/or hilarious moments" from Franken's tenure.

Franken is no stranger to writing books. Nor is he above singling out other people in those books, as evidenced by 2004's Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot.

That said, he still has to work with a lot of these congressmen – so it'd be surprising if he spills all the most lurid details about his coworkers.

Al Franken, Giant of the Senate will be $28 for a standard hardcover, and $15 for an ebook. You can preorder on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and probably plenty of other places. Here's the full cover:
