If you're up the creek without a paddle – you'll be able to rent one in Albert Lea soon enough.
The City of Albert Lea agreed on Monday to move forward on a project that will give people on-demand access to canoes, kayaks or paddle boards on the area's lakes and waterways, KIMT reports.
Think of it as an aquatic version of "NiceRide" bike rentals in Minneapolis, "NiceGlide" if you will. People will be able to book a canoe or kayak on a website, and then be given a code to unlock crafts kept at the Golden Point launch in Frank Hall Park.
It would also allow people to turn up and rent a canoe using a self-service booking station at the launch, the station notes, much in the same way NiceRide operates.
The proposal was put forward by Bill Howe of the the Albert Lea Lakes Foundation, according to MyAlbertLea.com.
According to the city website, Howe says the station would be built and installed by the foundation and then donated to the city.
Howe said he hopes the station will be installed and ready to use in June, KIMT notes.
