Alert after man tries to lure 10-year-old girl into his truck in Dakota County

He offered her money and candy.

Police are on alert after an older man tried to lure a 10-year-old girl into his truck on Monday.

The man approached the girl at the intersection of Berring Avenue and 225th Street West in Castle Rock Township in a black pickup truck, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office said.

He is said to have offered her $100 and candy if she would get in his truck "to help him find his 'lost' puppy."

Police say the man is white and aged around 60 years old.

They have issued a warning to parents to advise their children to stay away from strangers.

Investigators are looking for help from locals in identifying the man or his vehicle.

"Please write down license plates as well as distinguishing characteristics of suspicious vehicles and occupants to aid in identification," police said.

"We appreciate your diligence and will continue to investigate the incident."
