All eyes on Como Zoo's baby gorilla Arlene in public debut

St. Paul's Como Zoo has introduced its newest resident: Arlene, a baby gorilla who made her public debut Friday morning.

She could be seen clinging to her mother Dara with father Schroeder nearby.

Arlene was born to the first-time parents on Feb. 22.

Arlene and Dara spent the past few months bonding leading up to the baby's debut, the Zoo shared in a press release.

Senior zookeeper Allison Jungheim calls Dara a "fantastic mother," saying that she immediately "knew how to hold the baby properly, and she’s got a very nurturing way about her."

Arlene bears the name of the late Arlene Scheunemann, affectionately known as Como's "Zoo Mom," a press release notes. Scheunemann died in 2014 and during her lifetime raised more than 200 wild animals in her St. Paul home that went to zoos around the nation.

Scheuenemann is the subject of the biography "Zoo Mom: The Life of Arlene Scheunemann."

Arlene is one of four new babies in the Como Zoo family, along with giraffe Skye, zebra Rukus and orangutanKemala.

The zoo notes the gorillas might not always be on display depending on the weather.
