Alleged drunk driver crashes into Chisago Co. deputy's car
A woman is facing criminal charges after her vehicle struck a squad car in Chisago County over the weekend.
The collision happened Friday night near the intersection of St. Croix Trail and Hemingway Ave. in North Branch, where a local sheriff's deputy was conducting a traffic stop at the time.
At about 10:30 p.m., a Dodge Ram pickup slammed into the back of the parked squad, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle (pictured above) and sending the deputy to the hospital.
Fortunately, his injuries were not serious and he was soon discharged.
A news release from the Chisago County sheriff says that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The pickup's driver was arrested and is now in custody at Chisago County Jail, with formal charges expected Monday.
BringMeTheNews does not name suspects until they have been officially charged with a crime.
The sheriff's news release says the deputy was working as part of the Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths program at the time of the crash. The statewide initiative seeks to curb traffic-related fatalities through "education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency medical and trauma services."
