Former state Rep. Allen Quist may be throwing his hat back into the political ring, the Mankato Free Press reports.

Quist, the Republican challenger who lost to Democratic U.S. Rep Tim Walz in the 1st District race in November, says he may be interested in running for the seat in House District 19A left vacant Wednesday by Rep. Terry Morrow.

Morrow left his post to become the legislative director for the Chicago-based Uniform Law Commission.

The state DFL and GOP have yet to select official candidates to run for the seat, the Free Press reported.

A special election is required to be held within 40 days of Jan. 7 -- which is he official start of the next year's legislation session and Morrow's official date of resignation.

Quist served three terms in the state Legislature in the 1980s, and made two unsuccessful runs for governor in 1994 and 1998.
