The best regular season in Wild franchise history is quickly turning into a playoff nightmare, with Sunday's 3-1 loss in St. Louis putting Minnesota in a must-win situation the rest of the series.
It was the third straight game the Wild were held to one goal – this time coming from Charlie Coyle – while Blues goalie Jake Allen was again brilliant, making 40 saves to spoil another offensive effort that ended with the Wild out-shooting the Blues 41-31.
Devan Dubnyk wasn't great. He gave up a soft goal to Parayko Colton just over three minutes into the first period and the Wild stayed down 1-0 until Coyle's tally tied the game 1-1 in the second. The score stayed tied for only two minutes and 20 seconds as Jaden Schwartz netted a power play goal to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead.
Alexander Steen made it a 3-1 game with an empty-netter late in the third.
Minnesota now has to win four straight or their season is over.
According to Michael Russo, only four of 184 teams have won a series after trailing three games to none.
