It's that time of year again, when Minnesotans find out where they're going to be delayed this summer.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced 211 state road and bridge projects that will be worked on this year, which between them will cost around $1 billion.

A whole heap of those, unsurprisingly, are in the Twin Cities metro – though work on probably the biggest and most disruptive project, I-94 between downtown Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center, has already started and will last until summer 2018.

There will also be the usual host of smaller, city-led road construction projects happening in the metro area this summer, so it might be time to check out Ride The City's bike route planner.

You can find a full list of MnDOT projects around the state here. We've picked out some of the major construction happening in the Twin Cities.

I-35W/Lake Street in Minneapolis

This is a major project that will take four years, finishing in 2021. The Lake Street bridge and pavement will be reconstructed and a new Orange Line rapid transit station will be built. A new MNPass lane is also being added along with two new exit ramps.

I-94 St. Paul to Maplewood

This ongoing project that started last spring will continue, with road resurfacing, bridge repairs and noisewall construction causing lane closures and delays.

Highway 169 in Champlin

There's already ongoing work on 169 between Golden Valley and Edina, but some work is also planned in Champlin as the bridges over 169 are replaced at Elm Creek. This will mean lane closures.

I-694 between Shoreview and Arden Hills

694 is getting a third general purpose lane between Rice St. and Lexington Ave. and the interstate ramps are also being rebuilt. The work started last May but continues this year, ending in November. It will mean road closures over the coming months.

I-35E at Shepard Road, St. Paul

The good news for I-35E users is that the work on the interchange at Pennsylvania Avenue and Cayuga Street should be finished this spring. On the downside, there will be delays and closures when MnDOT replaces the bridge at Shepard road starting mid-May and ending in October.

A couple big projects are finishing up

Elsewhere in the state, there's relief on the way for Stillwater residents as one of the landmark road construction projects in recent Minnesota history – the St. Croix River Crossing – will finally be completed.

Also finishing this year is the relocation of Highway 53 in Virginia to make way for a mine expansion, which is seeing the construction of what will be the tallest bridge in Minnesota.
