Update: 7-month-old boy is found safe after Amber Alert

The suspect reportedly dragged the child's mother out of the car then drove off.

Police say a 7-month-old Twin Cities boy is safely reunited with his mother after an Amber Alert. Authorities had issued the alert following a carjacking in Bloomington around 7 p.m.

Law enforcement recovered the child in Burnsville at about 10 p.m., Bloomington police said in an email news release. The suspect is in custody.

Police also said it as an active and ongoing investigation, and they will release more information when it's available.

The original story with more details is below.

A 7-month-old is believed to be in a stolen vehicle, and authorities have issued an Amber Alert in their search for the suspect and car.

The infant, identified as Carter Dijhion Sims, was last seen in white shorts and an orange T-shirt, and was in a 2006 purple PT Cruiser, license plate 337 PRP, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says in the Amber Alert.

That vehicle was then carjacked by an acquaintance of the child's mother, who had been driving.

The bureau identified the suspect as 19-year-old Sharline Briana Miles. Authorities say around 7 p.m. Friday night, she got into an argument with the mother while they were in Bloomington. The mother, driving at the time, pulled over at 98th and 35-W.

Miles then got out of the car and pulled the child's mother out of the car by her hair. She then got in the car and took off with the 7-month-old in the back seat, leaving the mother on the side of the road, the Amber Alert says.

Before leaving, Miles told the woman she would never see her child again, according to the bureau.

The Amber Alert says she might be traveling to an address in Savage.

Chief Deputy Mike Hartley told GoMN the women aren't related, but do know each other – this was not a stranger abduction.

Miles is described as about 5-foot-6, 150 pounds, with light brown hair that was last seen in a ponytail. She'd been wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

If anyone sees her or the purple PT Cruiser, license plate 337 PRP, call 911 immediately.
