Amy Koch: 'I will not be a candidate for Congress in 2014'
Last week, former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch made the short list of well-known Minnesota Republicans to take U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann's seat in the state's Sixth District.
In a statement released Tuesday, Koch says she will not run next year.
"I have received numerous calls and expressions of support encouraging me to consider running for Congress from Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District," Koch said. "After quiet reflection, however, I have decided that I will not be a candidate for Congress in 2014."
Koch, who left her leadership post in 2011 after having an affair with Senate staffer Michael Brodkorb, says she's backing former state representative and GOP candidate for governor Tom Emmer.
The Associated Press reports Emmer is expected to announce his bid Wednesday evening at an event in Delano.
There's a lengthy list of possible candidates considering a run. No one has made a formal announcement.
