Before Christopher Panitzke passed away at the hospital, he told investigators that Andrew Dikken came into the bedroom where he and his girlfriend were sleeping and opened fire, according to criminal charges filed Wednesday.

Panitzke, 28, and 26-year-old Kara Ann Monson were shot multiple times at Monson's Granite Falls home during the early morning hours of Sept. 2.

Monson, Dikken's ex-girlfriend, was pronounced dead at the scene. Panitzke died at the Hennepin County Medical Center nearly a week later.

Dikken, 28, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder. He had been on the run until family members brought him to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon.

The morning of the shooting, Panitzke was transported to the Granite Falls Hospital. There, he told officers that Dikken "entered the house when they were sleeping, turned the lights on, and fired multiple shots at him and Kara," according to the criminal complaint.

Investigators discovered Dikken had sent text messages to Monson within hours of the shooting. The court document says a text message was also sent to one of Monson's family members "that indicated that Dikken was threatening Kara's life."

An unidentified person related to Dikken told police that a gun had been stolen from his or her home. The caliber of the missing gun was consistent with the caliber of the shell casings and the bullets found at the crime scene.

A gun case found in Dikken's truck matched the description of the stolen gun case.

Dikken is in custody at the Yellow Medicine County Jail. The Marshall Independent reports a bail hearing has been set for Thursday morning.
