Andrew, Hodges lead Minneapolis mayoral hopefuls in fundraising
Two of the 35 candidates in the race for Minneapolis mayor have pulled in nearly half the $1.6 million that has been raised across the campaigns, the Star Tribune reports.
Former Hennepin County commissioner Mark Andrew has raised $420,280, and City Council member Betsy Hodges has pulled in $285,266 (and lent herself $21,500), according to newly filed campaign finance records, the newspaper reports. Another sizable pile of the $1.6 million in the race came from independent candidate Dan Cohen, who loaned his campaign $320,000 of his own money, the Star Tribune reported, noting that Cohen has done little fundraising.
With the Nov. 5 election fast approaching, six of the leading candidates paused for a Tuesday debate that focused on crime, a street car system, and the city's relatively untested ranked-choice voting system, WCCO reported.
A Star Tribune poll last month showed no clear leader in the race.

A bit lost in this election season are a number of Minneapolis City Council races. As many as seven seats on the 13-member panel could change hands. It's possible the Council could have its first Hispanic member, and its first Socialist member since the 1920s, the Star Tribune noted this week.
