Another body found in the St. Croix, as MN river deaths and disappearances mount

Police have recovered a second body from the St. Croix River in the span of just three days.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office told the Pioneer Press the body of 41-year-old Troy Michael Henry, of Scandia, Minnesota, was found in the river near his hometown Monday night.

The newspaper reports there is no foul play suspected, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine his cause of death.

It is the second body to have been pulled from the St. Croix River in the last few days, after the body of missing 24-year-old Abbey Russell was found near Stillwater Saturday. She had been missing for more than a week.

Officials say the two cases are not related.

Earlier Monday, a body believed to be that of missing University of Wisconsin-River Falls student Robert Sontag, 20, was found in the Kinnickinnic River, just across the border from Minnesota.

He was last seen around 1 a.m. Friday when he became separated from a friend while walking home from a bar, with police saying alcohol was involved.

And on Friday a search of the Minnesota River was launched for missing 20-year-old Le Sueur woman Moriah Lynn Zwart, who was feared to have been swept away after a night camping on a sandbar with a friend.

Officials are now shifting the search for Zwart to a recovery effort, reports note. Alcohol is also believed to have played a factor in her disappearance.

Although the cause of death in the three fatal cases listed above have not been determined, deaths in Minnesota's lakes and rivers are an unfortunately regular occurrence.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources notes there were 43 drowning deaths in the state in 2014, 14 of which came as a result of boating accidents on Minnesota's waters. The rest are a combination of deaths from non-boating incidents in lakes and rivers, and drownings in swimming pools and bathtubs.

There were also 43 deaths in 2013, but they had fallen from 55 deaths in 2012, and 66 in 2011.
