Another child injured in train accident

A 10-year-old boy was injured on Saturday while he was trying to jump from a moving freight train.

Quoting an official with BNSF, the Star Tribune reported that the accident involving a BNSF train occurred about 5:45 p.m. in northeast Minneapolis.

KSTP reports the boy, who was accompanied by his 12-year-old brother, lost part of his big toe. The boy was able to walk away and call for help, according to police. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center.

The station says that police said the two were "train jumping" and the boy's foot got caught as he jumped.

Last month, 9-year-old Marshawn Kenneth Farr-Robinson had his feet cut off in a train accident in St. Paul. The Pioneer Press reports a benefit event for the boy's family will be held Sept. 28. The donation drive and raffle will be held at the Maplewood RE/MAX Prodigy office. A friend of the family said Marshawn is one of five adopted children of a single mother who has had to leave her job to take care of Marshawn's medical needs.

An investigation by KARE and NPR earlier this month found that there was no fence around the stretch of track in St. Paul where was injured, although the law requires a fence to keep people off railroad beds.
