A wave of gun violence continues in St. Paul, where a person was shot to death on Saturday afternoon.

The shooting, which occurred near the intersection of Maryland Avenue East and Hazelwood Street, marks the city's 28th homicide this year.

Callers reported gunshots around 5:30 p.m., and a short time later reported that a man was lying on the ground in a parking lot on the 1100 block of Hazelwood Street.

Police arrived to find a man on the ground and a second man who was injured inside a car at Fellows Lane and Hazelwood.

Both were taken to Regions Hospital, with the man found on the ground pronounced dead. The man in the vehicle has serious injuries.

"Preliminary information indicates that both victims were shot in the parking lot, where one collapsed and the other drove a short distance to Fellows and Hazelwood," St. Paul PD said.

The killing comes a day after St. Paul's 27th homicide of 2019; in that case, which happened early Friday morning in the Highland Park neighborhood, a man was found fatally shot in an SUV. A woman in the passenger's seat was also shot but is expected to survive her injuries.

Both cases are under investigation now.
