Another slick commute Wednesday morning, dozens of crashes reported

The commute is taking a bit longer than normal Wednesday morning, as motorists deal with some slick, wet roads.

The snow that fell Tuesday afternoon – almost 6 inches in some stretches of western and southern Minnesota, with 1-3 inches in the Twin Cities – led to a messy evening drive home (186 crashes in six hours, according to the State Patrol).

And the troubles continued early Wednesday.

People traveling south on Highway 100 had the worst of it Wednesday morning as crash after crash tangled the commute, the Star Tribune reports, adding drivers on Highway 169 didn't have an easier time – it took them over 40 minutes to get between Interstate 94 and Crosstown during the height of rush hour.

Crashes dotted the Minnesota Department of Transportation's accident map throughout the Wednesday morning commute. (Click the map to see real-time conditions.)
