Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire that broke out in an apartment building in the St. Anthony Village early Friday.
Multiple agencies responded to the Equinox Apartments, located on the 2800 block of Silver Lane, after fire alarms went off there at 2:46 a.m. that morning.
Inside, they found an "active fire" in the hallway of the third floor. An "adult female and her small child" had to be evacuated from the affected apartment, according to a news release from the local fire department:
One person at a unit next door was rescued from a balcony, while several others were escorted out of the building to safety. Though a number of residents and first responders were evaluated for "smoke and heat related concerns," no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to put down the blaze, though the effort left several units with smoke and water damage.
"The fire appeared to be suspicious in nature," the St. Anthony Village Fire Department says, adding that "all indications point to the fire being an intentional act."
In an interview with KSTP, Kaylin Richardson, the mother whose apartment was impacted by the fire, says she "has an idea of who's responsible for starting the fire and wants that person caught."
Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for a tip that leads to an arrest.
