The Business Journal reports that Carlson Real Estate Co. aims to construct a 175-unit apartment complex on a wooded private island that takes up most of a tiny lake next to its headquarters in Minnetonka.

Carlson plans to partner with Trammell Crow Co. to develop the five-story luxury apartment building with "significant amenities" on Carlson Center Island just northwest of the intersection of Interstate 494 and U.S. Route 12, the Business Journal reports.

Plans call for "meaningful conservation and preservation of the existing trees and natural vegetation," the company notes in a press release.

Carlson officials hope a city review of the project can start early next year, and they aim to break ground in spring or summer of 2014.
