A starving dog found in western Wisconsin has prompted local authorities to investigate what led to the dog's emaciated condition.

The Dunn County Sheriff's Office has asked the public to help identify the owners of a "severely malnourished" dog that was found north of Menomonie in the area of State Highway 79 and County Road J in Sherman Township.

The sheriff's office provided two photos of the dog, one of it standing on all four legs and another of it lying down, providing more scale to the severity of the condition it was in when found.
