Suspect in custody  after deputy is shot with arrow in Sauk Centre

Local schools are on a soft lockdown while the incident is handled.

UPDATE 1 P.M.

Stearns County Sheriff's Office says that the person suspected of shooting a deputy with a bow and arrow has been arrested.

He was taken into custody just before 1 p.m.

Original story

Residents of Sauk Centre have been advised to avoid the area between 8th and 10th Street South due to an ongoing incident that has left a deputy injured.

Sauk Centre Police said roads are blocked between Getty Street and Centre Street as officers engage in an apparent standoff.

Schools have been placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution, though there are no threats to the schools themselves.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office has now confirmed that a deputy was struck in the arm by an arrow fired from a bow, before another law enforcement officer on the scene opened fire.

The deputy was treated in an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and is now being transferred to another hospital

Police and negotiators continue to talk to the suspect, who is in a home in Sauk Centre right now.

The incident started around 11 a.m. when a pickup drove into a building.
