A standoff between law enforcement and an armed suspect that began in New Brighton Wednesday night ended Thursday morning.
"The situation at Long Lake Road and 16th Street NW in New Brighton has been resolved and there is no further threat to the public. The suspect is in custody," New Brighton Department of Public Safety announced around 6:15 a.m.
Residents within one block of the scene were asked to shelter in their basements when the situation quickly escalated Wednesday night as the subject who was "armed and barricaded" fired on officers as they helped a domestic assault victim escape from the home.
Fortunately, no officers were injured and the victim is safe.
More than 200 comments filled the New Brighton Department of Public Safety's Facebook post, many of them from residents in the area saying they could hear loud bangs and gunfire coming from the scene.
