Armed suspects fleeing police crashed into a fire hydrant and several trees in a residential Minneapolis street after a high-speed chase on Thursday evening.

Edina PD says two suspects held up the CVS Pharmacy on York Avenue in Edina, with the pair later arrested after a pursuit that happened shortly before 8:30 p.m.

The police department didn't release any more information other than that as of late Thursday, but BMTN learned the pursuit came to an end on the 4800 block of Xerxes Avenue South, which is about 2.5 miles straight north from the CVS.

It was there that the high-speed chase came to an end with the suspects striking a fire hydrant – sending it flying down the street – as well as multiple trees.

The vehicle was eventually stopped when it hit one final tree, with the pair taken into custody.

"A fire hydrant on the NW corner of 49th and Xerxes got hit and flew five houses down, so the vehicle had to have been going extremely fast," a resident who lives opposite the house where the vehicle crashed told BMTN.

"They took out one or two small trees before a very large tree won the fight."
