Colorado theater shooter found guilty, eligible for death penalty

James Holmes, who killed 12 people and injured 70 more after opening fire at a Colorado movie theater, has been found guilty at trial and is eligible for the death penalty. It took the jury just 13 hours to convict Holmes on 24 counts of first-degree murder, 140 counts of attempted murder and an explosives charge for the massacre during a screening of "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises" on July 20, 2012, in Aurora, near Denver. He had pleaded not guilty by way of insanity.

Marines killed in mass shooting in Tennessee

Four Marines have been killed after a gunman opened fire at two military sites at Chattanooga, Tennessee, the U.S. Navy has said. The suspected shooter, 24-year-old Mohammod Youssuf Abulazeez, is also dead. Investigators are now trying to determine whether it was an act of terrorism, or a criminal act.

Game of Thrones leads Emmy nominations

"Game of Thrones" leads the way in the nominations for this year's Emmy Awards, which were announced today. The HBO fantasy saga received 24 nominations. Other notable nominees includes "Mad Men," which is in with the chance of becoming the most-honored drama ever if it picks up its fifth "best drama series" trophy.
