Obama, Putin trade jabs at United Nations meeting

U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin made thinly veiled criticisms of each other during separate addresses on the Syrian conflict in front of the U.N. General Assembly Monday. They accused each other of intervening in the region's affairs at the cost of international stability. They were scheduled for a one-on-one sit-down the same day.

House Majority Leader to run for Boehner's seat

Just three days after House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced his resignation from Congress, Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has made clear his intentions to take over for the speaker when he steps down next month. In a letter released Monday, the California congressman vowed to "fight for our conservative principles," something Boehner's GOP colleagues frequently accused him of not doing.
