Police: 8-year-old beat baby to death while mother was at club

Birmingham, Alabama, authorities say an 8-year-old boy "viciously attacked" a crying 1-year-old girl who had been left in his care. The mothers of the two children were reportedly out at a club at the time of the incident. The 8-year-old has been charged in the death.

Representatives from several nations will meet in Vienna this weekend to discuss an endgame to Syria's 5-year-long war, which has claimed a quarter of a million lives. Man says Hot Pockets saved him from deadly Ohio plane crash

Jason Bartley says a decision to stop on his way home from doing errands to buy Hot Pockets may have saved his life. He lived in the Akron, Ohio, apartment building where a small jet crashed on Tuesday, killing all nine people aboard. Bartley told reporters narrowly missing the crash because of the extra errand was difficult to comprehend, but added that he's "grateful" to be alive.
