Arrest made after man shot dead west of Duluth

One person is dead and another is in custody after a shooting in northern Minnesota Saturday afternoon. 

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, authorities were sent to the 3500 block of Brevator Road on the Fond du Lac Reservation in Brevator Township around 2 p.m. 

The 911 caller informed dispatch that a man had been shot, and on arrival deputies and police officers from the Fond du Lac Police Department found a man dead from a gunshot wound. 

The victim has been identified as James A. Couture, 65, of Brevator Township. 

Three others were in the home when law enforcement arrived, and the 42-year-old man who lives at the residence was arrested and booked into the St. Louis County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. 

An investigation into the killing remains active and is being led by the sheriff's office with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Fond du Lac Police Department.
