Arrest made in Waite Park arson that caused millions of dollars of damage

The years-long investigation has finally resulted in an arrest.
Publish date:

A St. Cloud man was arrested Tuesday in connection to a 2015 arson that caused millions of dollars of damage at a Waite Park business.

Waite Park police say a 47-year-old man has been jailed on charges of 1st and 2nd degree arson, stemming from an April 2015 fire at the Martin Marietta granite quarry.

Police say that the suspect is a former employee of Martin Marietta.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, but investigators determined the blaze wasn't accidental, and they've been working it for the past three years with help from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

"Our investigators never gave up trying to find answers and their hard work paid off!" said Waite Park Chief of Police Dave Bentrud.

If convicted, the accused faces up to 20 years in prison.
