Ray Widstrand is struggling to recover from serious injuries he suffered in an apparent gang fight near his home on St. Paul's East Side, the Pioneer Press reports. Police say they've arrested four suspects involved in the melee that police say involved as many as 50 juveniles and young adults in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood.

Widstrand moved to the area recently and was on a late-night walk Sunday when he tried to pass through the crowd. Witnesses tell police he was attacked and knocked down. He was punched and kicked and hit with a can in a sock. The 26-year-old producer for a community cable TV service suffered brain swelling, which is potentially fatal.

His father, Paul Widstrand, told KARE-11 he 'can't imagine why someone would do this to another person.'
