Authorities in east-central Minnesota are investigating what is believed to be a case of arson involving a popular snowmobile bridge.
The fire on the snowmobile bridge along St. Croix Road that crosses the Snake River was reported at 8:07 a.m. Saturday, according to the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
"It appears someone intentionally had a fire on the bridge which burned a hole into it," the sheriff's office said in a release, noting that the crossing is known by many as the "million dollar bridge."
The fire caused enough damage to the point that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has deemed it unsafe to cross, thus forcing its closure.
Anyone with information about the possible arson fire is asked to contact the DNR or the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
