Arson suspected in fire that burned down school playground in Watertown, Minnesota

A fire that destroyed thousands of dollars worth of playground equipment at an elementary school is believed to have been caused by arson. 

According to Watertown Fire Department, the fire was reported at Watertown-Mayer Elementary School around 10 p.m. Sunday, May 3. School officials estimate the fire caused $15,000 to $20,000 in damage. 

Arson is suspected and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage for possible leads. 

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Carver County Sheriff's Office at 952-361-1231. 

Watertown is located just west of the Twin Cities metro area, about 7 miles south of Delano.
