Asiana Airlines crash: What if it happened at MSP?

Flights from San Francisco to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have been canceled or delayed Sunday, in the wake of the Asiana Airlines crash.

KARE 11 takes a look at emergency preparedness at MSP, and reports that staff there are highly trained for scenarios such as that in San Francisco Saturday – a crash of a plane on approach.

Besides that, Federal regulations require the airport to update its emergency plan every year, says the station. But what happens if what happened happens here?

Reporter Trisha Volpe offers a bleak conclusion: "At the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, a crash anywhere on approach could be potentially catastrophic with residential areas in several directions and the Mall of America to the south."

And there's that dang river to contend with.
