1 driver dead in 2-vehicle crash south of the Twin Cities

The crash happened in Lonsdale just prior to 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities are investigating after a fatal crash south of the metro Monday evening. 

The two-vehicle crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Hwy. 19 at the intersection with County Road 2 on the northwest side of Lonsdale, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. 

The driver of a 2010 Kia Rio was westbound out of Lonsdale on Hwy. 19 while the driver of a 2012 Audi Q5 was eastbound on County Road 2. The vehicles collided where the two roadways meet. 

The Kia driver, identified as Anthony J. Mancino, 34, of Glencoe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mancino was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol. 

The driver of the Audi was a 72-year-old man from Northfield. He was not injured. 

The Lonsdale Fire Department, Lonsdale Police Department, Rice County Sheriff's Office and Northfield Ambulance assisted at the scene of the crash.
