UPDATE 8:25 A.M.

AT&T now says the 911 outage issue has been resolved.

Original story

AT&T customers in the Twin Cities and in many other areas currently can't call 911, with the mobile carrier currently responding to an outage.

The City of Minneapolis is among the law enforcement agencies that have warned AT&T customers of the outage, which prevents them being connected to a 911 operator.

"Approx. an hour ago Minneapolis was made aware that AT&T is experiencing a 911 outage resulting in their customers unable to be directly connected to 911," Minneapolis PD tweeted just after 7 a.m.

The alternate number to call in Minneapolis for emergency help is 612-348-2345.

A quick check on social media shows that other AT&T outages are being reported in Texas, Oregon, Washington, and Michigan, among others.

At this stage the extent of the outage is not clear. It's not known whether the outage affects AT&T customers only in Minneapolis, or if it's a wider problem across the metro area and greater Minnesota.
