At the St. Anthony police station: Signs of frustration, but no comment

BringMeTheNews took a trip to St. Anthony Police Station Thursday afternoon and, unsurprisingly, the police department declined to comment on what's happened since Philando Castile was shot by an officer with the department Wednesday night.

A desk clerk told us that since the investigation is being handled by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), all statements go through them.

The scene was quiet at the station, but there were two people standing outside holding placards, one saying "Stop shooting people" and the other saying "Killers."

The "Killers" sign was held by retired 68-year-old Pat Taubman, who told BringMeTheNews he had never protested outside a police station before but felt he had to after watching the video of Philando Castile's shooting when he woke up.

"It is a sad state of affairs once again," he said. "This is America, we are supposed to be free. I'm an old man and I'm starting to not feel free anymore.

"I got up this morning and [the video] was the first thing I saw, and I found myself weeping watching her [Lavish Reynolds] in the car.

"I do not cry very often, but just talking about it makes me incredibly sad. Everybody has a right to live."

The former respiratory therapist was getting honks of approval from cars passing the station. One person stopped to bring him a bottle of water, he said.

Since then, more signs have appeared outside the station, according to tweets from Star Tribune reporters.
