An ATV driver has died after striking a deer in northern Minnesota Sunday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff says the collision was reported on an ATV trail near the 6200 block of Hwy. 47 in Meadowlands Township at 7:55 a.m.

A 38-year-old man had been thrown from his side-by-side ATV after hitting a deer, causing it to roll multiple times.

Because the driver wasn't wearing the safety belt, he was thrown from the machine.

He was picked up by a Meadowlands Ambulance and was in the process of being taken to a hospital when he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.

The victim has not yet been identified as his family have not all been informed. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office will release this at a later date.
