Authorities ID man fatally struck by 'errant bullet' in Willmar
A man fatally struck by an errant bullet Friday night has been identified.
David Delfosse, 41, of Willmar, was working in his garage Friday when an "errant bullet" pierced a garage wall and fatally struck him in the chest, according to the Willmar Police Department.
The fatal gunshot happened on the 1000 block of 4th St. SW around 7:40 p.m., with the sheriff's office reporting that witnesses saw Delfosse "suddenly collapse." Delfosse was pronounced dead at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
"Evidence indicates that an errant bullet came from a location off of the homeowner's property, through the garage wall and struck him," the police department's release says, adding that a "high risk search warrant" was served Saturday on the 1000 block of 3rd St. SW and no arrests were made.
Authorities are investigating the shooting as a homicide, though "there is no evidence to indicate the homeowner was an intended target or victim."
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 320-235-2244, while also asking residents that live in the area to look through home security camera video and audio to help find any suspicious behavior or to hear or see any gunshots.
