Authorities identify man stabbed to death on Blue Line train

Authorities have identified the man who was fatally stabbed on a Blue Line light rail train in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Anthony Demetrius Watson, 45, of Minneapolis, died in Hennepin County Medical Center from multiple sharp force wounds, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Thursday evening.

He had been involved in a verbal altercation with another man on the Blue Line that turned violent, with the other man allegedly pulling a knife.

Police found Watson wounded when the train stopped at the Mall of America station.

A 67-year-old man is currently being held in Hennepin County Jail on probable cause murder. He had remained at the scene of the fight when police arrived.

Court records show that he has previous convictions for assault and criminal sexual conduct.
