Authorities responding to fire report find human remains in burnt car

The discovery was made by responders in Goodhue County.

Police and fire officials responding to a structure fire in Goodhue County found human remains in a burnt car.

A 911 call of a "structure fire" sent responders to the 45000 block of Highway 56 Boulevard in Holden Township, north of Kenyon, just after 6 p.m. New Year's Eve.

When they arrived, firefighters found the remains in a burnt vehicle parked outside a home.

The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office say the homeowners and local residents have been accounted for, with work underway to identify the deceased.

"The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation by Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office," the sheriff's office press release says.
