Authorities in northeast Minnesota are asking the public to be on the lookout for an escaped prison inmate.

Keith Cochise Bellanger, 33, fled on foot during a transfer at Northeast Regional Corrections Center (NERCC) on Friday afternoon, according to a release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. NERCC is located in Saginaw, about 18 miles north of Duluth.

The release says sheriff's deputies and K9 units followed Bellanger's tracks through the snow and four miles of woods, but the trail eventually went cold.

Despite a search of the area, he has not been located. Authorities are asking asking anyone who sees Bellanger to contact the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office at (218) 726-2340.

The release does not specify why Bellanger is in prison, but a search of local news sources shows he has a burglary conviction from 2008.
