A 55-year-old homicide victim in Shakopee died due to "decapitation with multiple sharp and blunt force injuries," the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office announced Sunday.

The autopsy results were released in wake of the killing of America M. Thayer, of Shakopee, who was found dead near the intersection of Spencer Street South and 4th Avenue around 2:30 p.m. July 28.

Her 42-year-old boyfriend, Alexis Saborit, has been charged with second-degree intentional murder. Prosecutors say he killed Thayer with a machete after she suggested they break-up. A criminal complaint explains that Saborit admitted to the crime and said Thayer had "gone too far" with her suggestion to end the relationship.

Multiple witnesses and video from a nearby resident captured some of the shocking incident and its aftermath. Officers arrested Saborit in the area of Shenandoah Parkway and Highway 101, about a mile east of the crime scene.
