Baby delivered on I-35W road shoulder

A woman delivered a baby on the shoulder of Interstate 35W near 36th Street in Minneapolis Monday morning, KARE 11 reports.

MnDOT cameras captured a man waving his arms frantically in an effort to stop a state trooper. By the time the trooper arrived, a woman in a car on the side of the road had already given birth, KARE reported. An ambulance took the mother and child to the hospital and both were doing fine, KARE 11 reported.

It was hardly the first Minnesota roadside birth. About two years ago, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in southwest Minnesota got a call that a woman was going into labor near Milepost 125 on Interstate 94, and that baby was also born before a trooper arrived.

Similar stories played out in Big Lake Township, Minn., and in Maplewood, both in September 2011.
