A 1-year-old child died and three other children and two adults were injured when a Ford Explorer crashed and fell from an overpass onto Interstate 94 in Brooklyn Center.
The State Patrol reports that the single-vehicle wreck happened around 2:29 a.m., when a Ford Explorer that was traveling north on Dupont Avenue struck a barrier and flipped over a fence, landing on eastbound I-94.
Killed in the crash was a 1-year-old boy from Minneapolis. The child's name has not been released. Five others in the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale for care.
The driver was a 25-year-old Minneapolis man, while the four other passengers included a 25-year-old Minneapolis woman and three children – a 9-year-old boy, 9-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy – from Brooklyn Center.
The State Patrol says alcohol was detected on the driver.
The location of the crash is just east of Highway 100 at I-694.
