Backstrom injures ankle, KHL trip on hold
Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom is supposed to be headed to Belarus to play in the KHL while the NHL lockout is in place, but his trip has been delayed because of an ankle injury.
In a text message to the Pioneer Press, Backstrom said he's staying in Minnesota to "practice" and to heal a minor ankle injury.
Pro Hockey Talk points out that the upcoming season is important for Backstrom because he's entering the final year of his contract with the Wild.
